1. One of your colleagues has left their screen open (logged into MUSE), you have a huge workload and need to order entry/edit your requisition. Your colleague is nowhere to be found. What would you do?
2. You are about to do an ECG on a patient and are typing their information into the system when you notice that the date of birth is wrong, and the patient’s last name is misspelled. Your patient insists you get the ECG done now because he has somewhere to be. His admitting diagnosis is chest pain. Who are your resources, and what are some other possible scenarios to acquiring this ECG while maintaining patient safety and making sure you are putting in the right information?
1.The best thing to do here is to log out the screen which is opened by the colleagues .This can not only protect the patient information but also help to avoid misusing and legal concerns later. Then login with the individual or personal details provided by the officials and enter the patient data and log out for confidentiality purposes .
Simultaneously ensure that the colleque is informed about this and not repeat this in future to avoid consequences. In case of novice staff educate about the use of technology.
2.It is very essential to put the right patient details in the patient records .This acts as the reference for patients medical treatment in current situation and in future .
The corrections can be done if there is access to it and has the rights to do it. Otherwise inform the concerned authority (admission department) to make the necessary changes and make the entry. The other way which can be done is by taking an ECG with or without name or DOB in it and making a manual entry (correction done by making a cut or line on the wrong data) with signature of the concerned staff on the ECG record.
