Explain how the idea of preserving the future as the realization of the potential of the past (found in the closing lines of chapter 11 of the text) reflects the Brundtland definition of sustainability.
" Sustainable development is development that meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs"(Brundtland Report,1987).
A development that seeks to maintain the the natural resources to continue or last is sustainable development. As most of the valuable natural resources takes time to replenish itself, hence, are depleting in nature and if not conserved will exhaust soon.If we do not take necessary steps and precautions while developing, to conserve these resources, then, the future generations will be in a grave danger because of environmental crisis and unavailability of natural resources. This is the core concept of the definition of Brundtland's sustainable development. The same idea of preserving, a realisation to conserve and protect the nature and it's bounties, to protect the future generations must be the potential goal of past (present) is reflected in the definition.
