Dietary Needs of a person Over 70 Years Old:

Calories:

A 70-Year-old person requires 1600 -2000 calories daily if the person is active and sedentary.

Protein:

The person should include 46 - 56 grams of protein. They should include 1/4 cup cooked beans, 1 tablespoon nuts, and 1 ounce of meat, seafood in the daily diet.

Fiber:

The recommended daily intake of fiber is 28- 36 grams of fiber. This will prevent constipation, reduces the risk of heart diseases. Bread 1 slice, Cereal -1 cup, should be included in the daily diet. 1 cup of fruits, dried fruits, and 2 cups of vegetables should be included in the daily diet.

Vitamins and minerals:

As old age increases the risk of vitamin B12 deficiency, depression, and fatigue. So, increased micronutrients, vitamins, and minerals should be included in the diet. Fish, fortified foods, fish, potatoes, and egg yolk should be included in the everyday diet.In addition, 1.5milligrams of vitamin B6 should be included in the everyday diet.

Fats:

The fats and oil should be limited every day as the age increases. Hydrogenated oils, butter, avocados, margarine should be avoided. Avoid full-fat dietary diet, and include non-fat yogurt, fat-reduced cheese in the diet.

Use it or Lose it:

This relates to the effects of aging and the cognitive function. The mind and the body are correlated. The physical activity will keep the heart and the lungs healthy. This increases the blood flow to the brain and avoids the risk of stroke. Depression will shrink the brain. Physical exercise will treat the depression and protects the brain. The researcher also found that exercise is effective in treating the depression than the medication.

Use it or lose it: If we reduced the movement then the brain will shrink. If we work hard then the brain functioning will improve. Thus the concept tells Use the brain volume otherwise you have to lose it.

b. Advanced age, lack of mobility, dependence, loneliness will affect the older people. Elderly people often face many health challenges. Senior citizen should be encouraged to be healthy and to stay positive and active. One must show love and affection in elderly, which will improve their cognitive functioning. Provide safety and security to the elderly will encourage them to achieve goals. Assigning simple responsibilities make them interactive. Socializing will improve their communication and reduce the depression. Household activities like gardening, craft work will improve the self-esteem and physical activity. All of these activities will improve the quality of life of senior citizens.
