QUESTION 19 According to the video, "Becoming American", there is a concept called the "Latino paradox". What is the "Latino paradox"?
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has issued a report specifically on the state of Latino health in the U.S.
Latino paradox, also known as the "epidemiologic paradox," a phenomenon observed by public health researchers in which Latinos in the U.S. are less likely to suffer from chronic disease or die prematurely, despite high rates of poverty and less access to education and health care.
It is also known as Hispanic Epidemiological Paradox.
Latinos furthermore have lesser death rates for nine out of 15 principal causes of death as compared to white populace.
Specifically, Latinos in the U.S. are also less possible to suffer from cancer & heart disease than the general population, and are also less likely to die of cancer, heart disease, the flu, suicide & additional top causes of death in the country.
Moreover Latinos tend to have lower smoking rates than white people.
At the last I would like to conclude that not every measure is always positive one there are some negative concerns also as, Latinos are much more likely to die from diabetes, chronic liver disease, homicide, & essential hypertension and hypertensive renal disease than whites. At the same time they also have higher rates of obesity.
