Explain the implication of the environment and time of Jose Rizal to his personality. What are the possible implications of the elements, (economic condition, political situation, education system and socio-cultural situation) of his environment and time
SOLUTION:-
* Jose Riza (19 June 1861-30 December 1896) was born in calamba, Philippines, in a middle-class family. At that time Philippine was a Spanish colony.
* He was a brilliant child. To treat his mother he studied medicine to become an eye surgeon because his mother was going blind. He was a poet, an educator, and a journalist. He knew 23 languages and master in 20 different skills.
* He wanted his country to be free country but wanted freedom through non-violence. To achieve his goal he formed a civic movement called La Liga Filipina in the year 1892. He was open minded, intelligent, and hardworking. Besides being a good essayist and writer he wanted to fight for freedom in a peacefil way, for that he was humbly fighting for reforms through his writings and essays, but the Spanish government found his writing against the Spanish rule and he was declared an enemy
* He had written two novels "Touch me not" and "The Subversive" inspired by the execution of the three Filipino priests by the Spanish government. The books were banned but it got circulated underground and brought a spiritual uprising in the country. He launched a nationalist maqazine La Solidaridad in Spain impressed by the revolt across Spanish Empire in Spain.
* Looking at his popularity and uprising in Philippine he was arrested and exiled to the remote Philippine island of Mindanao. When he was serving in Cuba as a surgeon to the Spanish forces he was publically execute by a firing squad on the charges of sedition, rebellion, and having an ilicit relationship with his Irish lover, Josephine Bracken on December 30, 1896.
* At the time of execution, he was 35 years old. His death brought the divided community of the philippines together. It revolutionized the community that was previously divided into an educated group taht preferred non-violence and the revolutionary group that was favoring the armed revolution.
* The result of his execution saw the strength of the people who stood together against the Spanish rule.
* Jose Rizal is remembered as the true hero of the Philippines who was down to earth, had spirit of brotherhood, fighter under adverse conditions, he aws a warm personality, and ready to make personal sacrifices for the benefit of teh common people and his country.
* On April 21, 1898, the US intervened and declared war against Spain involving Cuba and the Philippine Islands. The Spanish army was defeated. The American Philippines relationship strengthens and after WWII America emerged as a superpower and finally on july 4, 1946 the US granted full independence to the Philippines.
