What is the function of secondary storage? Describe three types of secondary storage media, and describe the advantages and disadvantages of each type.
The main function of secondary storage media is to store the data where the main storage limits its storage capacity. The secondary storage helps to store bulk data and retain it to help in effective functioning of the system or computer. This will help the storage system without effecting any data when there is sudden shut off of the computer.
These are three forms (other forms also exist) of secondary storage media
1: Hard Disk Drive: It can store data in bulk form and are highly available in the market in many storage capacities which is a pro. It consumes more power when compared to many of the storage devices which is a con
2.: CD-ROM: It can also store data in quantities not large enough to that of the hard disk drive but when compared to that it can store the data in cheapest version of the price which is a pro. It can be easily damaged and is very sensitive device which is a con.
3. Magnetic tape: When compared to Hard disk and CD-ROM, it's highly automated versed storage device which is a major pro and it's highly sensitive and the main con is to change it frequently.
