What are 2 policy issues Senator Cory Booker is interested in and how does it reflect his ideology?
Cory Booker is one of the well-known Senators in the United States and has widely been recognized for two critical things that he has said about managing the economy. Namely these are income inequality and minimum wages. The same are described as follows: -
1) "Income Inequality”: -
Cory brooker is one of the strongest advocates for removing income inequality in the country. He says this is possible only when the current tax rates for the rich and elite in the society are increased and that on the poor sections of the society are significantly reduced, This he says will help in bringing about income inequality which remains as one of the key economic problems in the country.
He says that increasing aggregate demand for the poor sections of the society and ensuring that they benefit from the economic progress within the country is extremely important.
He is opposed to the idea of decreasing taxes for the rich like the previous governments have done as he believes that this does not directly help in creating jobs but rather business owners retain their capital and get the work done from existing staff only.
2) "Raising Minimum Wages to 15$"
The minimum wages he has argued has been extremely low in the United States and the average earning of the middle class and the lower sections is extremely low, such that their access to modern facilities such as healthcare, nutrition and housing is minimum.
He is among the advocates for increasing the same to allow poor sections of the society to live a rather comfortable life for themselves.
Ideology: -
The economic concepts as proposed by brooker, prove his due inclination towards helping the poor sections of the society and active government intervention so as to help the economy in remaining stable and providing for everyone. This usually infers to the Keynesian form of economics, wherein government intervention is considered important for social justice and economic equality of the masses.
He is a strong advocate of the government using its policy to tax the rich more, and provide better benefits for the poor section in the country.
