h) what is the difference between alpha-adrenergic blocking agents and beta-adrenergic blocking agents? J) what are the key nursing implementation considerations for a patient receiving nonselective adrenergic blocking agent?
Ans h)1. Alpha adrenergic blockers selectively binds to Alpha receptors whereas beta blockers binds to beta receptors.
2. Alpha adrenergic blockers inference with the ability of catecholamines and other sympathomemtic to provoke Alpha response on the heart whereas beta adrenergic blockers blocks the effects of catecholamines and sympathomemtic on the heart and other smooth muscle.
3. Alpha adrenergic blockers work on the blood muscles to widen up the blood vessels while the Beta blockers work on the heart to ease the flow of blood.
4. Alpha adrenergic blockers medication work on the hormone of norepinephrine or noradrenaline while the Beta adrenergic blockers works on the epinephrine or adrenaline.
5. Alpha adrenergic blockers work for the blood pressure levels alone while the Beta adrenergic blockers can work for both heart and the blood pressure.
6. Alpha adrenergic blockers do not cause weight gain or loose whereas beta adrenergic blockers can cause weight gain.
Ans j) 1. Monitor for adverse effects.
2. monitor for therapeutic effects like decreased or increased chest pain.
3. Do not discontinue immediately after a chronic therapy because patient can develop hypersensitivity to catecholamines and may have severe reaction. Monitor the patient for these reactions.
4. Encourage patient for positive lifestyle changes regarding diet, exercise, smoking cessation which eventually help in lowering blood pressure.
5. Assess and monitor heart rate changes that might indicate arrhythmia.
6. Monitor gastro intestinal reflection and need for increased bathroom facilities and need for increased fluid intake related to diarrhea, vomiting and sweating.
7. Provide comfort, clean and quite environment to the patient to cope up with drug effects.
8. Provide educationto the patient and other family members about drug effects and warning signs to report to enhance knowledge.
