Migraines are pulsing or throbbing headaches in one area of the head. It is a headache of varying intensity, often accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and sound.
The client shows symptoms of the headaches affect one half of the head, and are pulsating in nature, and last from two to 72 hours. The client might be show the symptoms which include nausea, vomiting, and sensitivity to light, sound, or smell.
While acupuncture may be effective in reducing the number of migraines An acupuncture is a practice where needles are placed randomly. Chiropractic manipulation, physiotherapy, massage and relaxation might be as effective as propranolol or topiramate in the prevention of migraine headaches; however, the research had some problems with methodology. The evidence to support spinal manipulation is poor and insufficient to support its use. The evidence supports the use of stress reduction techniques such as cognitive behavioral therapy, biofeedback, and relaxation techniques. Of the alternative medicines, butterbur has the best evidence for its use. The supplement melatonin also has modest evidence supporting its use as an add on therapy for prevention and treatment of migraine. Melatonin's mechanism of action in migraine are not completely clear, however, may include improved sleep, direct action on melatonin receptors in the brain, and anti-inflammatory properties.
