The Ethical conduct of the physical Therapist Assistant was adopted on June 1935, at APA convention Atlantic City.

The Code of conduct was later revised in 2009 and the documents came into effect from 1st July, 2010.

The standards include:

  1. A physical therapist assistant shall respect the dignity of all individuals and shall provide compassionate care.
  2. He/she shall act in a trustworthy manner towards the patient or clients.
  3. He/She shall provide selected physical therapy interventions under the guidance and supervision of a physical therapist.
  4. He/She shall comply with laws and regulations governing physical therapy.
  5. He/She shall acheive and maintain competence in the provision of selected physical therapy interventions.
  6. He/She shall make judgements that are commensurate with their educational and legal qualifications as a physical therapy assistant.
  7. He/She shall protect the public and the professionfrom unethical, incompetent and illegal acts.
