1. LIST OF VACCINES THAT SHOULD BE GIVEN BEFORE ENTERING
COLLEGE:-
(a) Meningococcal conjugate vaccine:-
- against Bacterial meningitis.
- outbreak of this disease often seen in college campus.
(b) DPT vaccine:- diphtheria, pertussis (whooping cough) and tetanus.
(c) HPV vaccine:- sexually transmitted infection of human
papillomavirus is so common in almost all sexually active men and
women.
-HPV Vaccine is recommended for preteens ages 11 to 12, young
adults who didn't start the three shot series should get them
before entering college.
(d) Seasonal flu vaccine:-this Vaccine can protect from getting
the seasonal flu.
-it is recommended for everyone ages 6 months and older.
2. VACCINE PREVENTABLE DISEASES:-
(i) DIPHTHERIA:-
-It is a severe bacterial infection of the nose and throat.
-It spreads through droplets from infected individuals, primarily
occurs among non?immunized people.
-symptoms include sore throat, fever, swollen tonsils and neck
glands.
-DPT Vaccine is given for prevention of diphtheria.
(ii) PERTUSSIS (WHOOPING COUGH):-
-It is a very contagious, potentially respiratory disease.
-It spread through respiratory droplets that are expelled into the
air.
-Symptoms include coughing that spells end in a high?pitched
“whoop” as air is taken in.
-in the severe coughing stage, seizures or even death may
occur.
-immunization prevent its incidence.
(iii) TETANUS:-
-It is a bacterial infection that affects the nervous system.
-Tetanus spreads through contact with infected person, contaminated
soil, dust, animal feces or rusty metal.
-symptoms includes muscles spasms.
-Tetanus toxoid prevent this infection.
(iv) MEASLES:-
-It is serious viral infections of childhood.
-It spread through direct contact with infectious droplets or by
airborne spread.
-symptoms include similar to common cold, runny nose, watery eyes
and a high fever and body rashes.
-All children should receive MMR immunization at 12-15 months of
age.
