  • As a student who is transitioning from the protective environment of a school to a completely whole new world of college it can come as a culture shock to many of them.In school you have teachers looking out for you and helping you.But in college since you are 18,teachers expect you to do things on your own and take charge,no spoon feeding,in short.
  • At the college level, students are expected to take a more active role in their learning; therefore, they need to think about how they will adjust to meet the heightened expectations of higher education. Successfully making this adjustment means having the ability and know-how to meet the increasing demands of college, and being open to change.
  • Also, psychologically and emotionally adjusting is important as well. You might not have the same people that you grew up with in school and get exposed to new people and new belief systems and a new culture. This could be extermely positive, since meeting new peopl from different ethnicities and cultures can be an enriching experience in college and helping you to grow as person and discover yourself as well gain more knowledge about the entire new world which exists out of school.
  • Also, this can be least positive and intimidating as well, since bullying is common in colleges.Getting discriminated on the basis of race, colour etc. can have major emotional impact on the mental health of the student. For some its hard to cope with this stress and for some it could be easy.
  • In college since you become free and our operating on your own, your opinions change and you start embracing various individual differences you experience making you more flexible in your thought process. You start ackowledging different identities, different sexualities, different belief systems etc. which makes you understand that the world is full of so many experiences.
  • As someone who was always shy and quiet in school, getting exposed to college culture made me shed my inhibitions, face people, interact with them and make me mor confident and less rigid in my approach towards life.By joining various societies and getting exposed to various opportunities and people from different parts of the world made me the person I am today, right from social skills to money management skills and becoming independent all has been a part of my college journey.
