Pain management or pain control represents the branch of
medicine that tends to relieve suffering and enhance the quality of
life of the people living with chronic pain. An interdisciplinary
approach is used for the aim of pain management.
Following are the recent facts related to pain management
according to American Academy of pain management:
- 18F-FDG PET (positron emission tomography) and MRI (magnetic
resonance imaging) have been used in a new molecular approach that
can precisely determine the site of pain generators in people
suffering from chronic pain. It triggers a new plan of management
for the patients.
- A novel class of pipeline drugs has been discovered by the
researchers at Louisiana State University Health New Orleans. These
drugs can relieve pain and decrease fever without the risk of
addiction and liver or kidney damage.
- Placebo has been reported to treat pain. In research it has
been found that patients experiencing psychological distress like
anxiety and depression feel relief from pain in a placebo
experiment. In this research, an inert cream was used which patient
thought could help them.
