What are the latest technologies to remove sulfate from industrial wastewater?
Although there are many processes to remove the sulfate from industrial waster water. Following are the maximumly used and the latest ones:
1. Lime precipitation: In this technology lime(Badically calcium) is added in the form of either hydrated lime or limestones. Lime precipitates the sulfates in form of calcium sulfate based on the solubility limits of sulfate salt. After achieving the soubility limit, further lime addition does not actually help.
2. Barium Precipitation: Barium sulfate has very low solubility in water. Thus barium is an excellenet method of removing sulfate from waster water. Barium is added in the form of Barium chloride or Barium carbonate which the reacts with sulfates to form barium sulfates.
3. Cost Effective Sulfate Removal process: A specializeed powdered cement also called as reagent is added to waste water. This forms a precipateted hydrated calcium aluminium sulfate compound also called as ettringite, In The CESR process lime is added and a pH of required at 11.3 for ettringite formation .
