Before you assemble the matrix band and retainer or place the mylar strip intraproximally, hold band securely in place by applying finger pressure on the occlusal surface while tightening the band securely on the tooth. Select the wedge at a right angle in the breaks of a hemostat or locking pliers. Then correctly place the wedge in the intraproximal space below the gingival margin of the tooth preparation from the ligual side.
