List three condition/disease (for each) that affect the Eyes and ENT and describe drugs used to treat the condition/disease.
Also, research what surgical procedures are commonly done for Ophthalmology and Ear, Nose and Throat patients - list and describe three each.
1). Conditions affecting the eyes and ENT:
a). Myopia is an inability to focus on distant objects because the image focuses in front of the retina. This is also called as “nearsightedness.” The persons with myopia can see the closer objects with no problem, but the distant objects appear blurred. They are prescribed to have concave lenses for proper distant vision.
b). Hyperopia occurs due to the focusing of light rays behind the retina. Hyperopia is an inability to focus on closer objects because the image focuses behind the retina. This is also called as “farsightedness.” The persons with hyperopia can see the distant objects with no problem, and they are prescribed to have convex lenses for proper near vision.
c). Cataracts: Loss of visual acuity due to the age-related opacity in the lens of the eye is known as the cataract. Age, diabetes, UV radiation, smoking, steroids usage, consumption of alcohol, trauma, nutritional deficiencies are the possible causes of cataracts.
Signs and symptoms: The patient reports problems with the near and or far vision, difficulty in reading, hazy vision, double vision, increased sensitivity to glare, reduced sensitivity in color vision.
Cataracts are correct by surgical intervention.
