A newly diagnosed diabetic patient is being seen in the health clinic. You are to begin teaching his self-injection of insulin. Develop a teaching plan for this patient. Discuss several outcome criteria associated with the insulin education.
Teaching plan for the patient of diabetes about self injection of pencilin:
Teaching of insulin self administration should focus on injection in right tissue space,at the right time,in a right way every time.
We should teach the evidence based standardized methods to improve clinical outcomes.
We should make the patient understand the action of medication.
Teach about the comfort of injection.
We should teach the safe and effective medication dosing including when and how to take.
Teach about site inspection and rotation to decrease absorption variability.
Teach about periodic review of injection sites and techniques, especially when blood glucose control is suboptimal.
Teach about the choice of injection devices considering the ease of use and patient limitations.
Teach about the choice of needle: length and gauge to maximize control and efficacy.
Teach about timing of injection, related to teh effect of medication, meals, activity and stressor.
Teach about the safe disposal of used sharps.
Teach about the inspection of injectable medication before use.
Outcome criteria associated with Insulin education:
With the proper teaching about the insulin administration, many of the patients experience a decline in the blood glucose level.
Complications if present, are early identified and taken care off.
Patients can easily take a self medication.
They have an idea about the action of medication and the effect associated with it.
They also come to know about the use of insulin administration.
Close monitoring the their blood glucose levels also possible after the insulin administration.
Patients come to know about the direction of use of insulin.
Enhance the condition of the patients health.
