Describe environmental policies in the nineteenth century, and compare and contrast them with those introduced in 1970 and later in the twentieth century. Why do you suspect that the government has become so much more involved in environmental issues in recent decades?
Contemporary environmental policies were started from 19th
century after the industrial revolution. Market should charge the
environmental protection and ensuring the conservation of
resources. The environmental organisations in 19th century focused
on conservation, wildlife protection and pollution emerged through
industrialisation and urbanisation. Most of the policies focused on
environment protection, grass root democracy, social justice and
nonviolence. The environmental activities of 18th century were self
conscious activism and unconventional policies involve direct
protesting actions. The other strategies during that period are
public education and media campaigns, community directed activities
and conventional lobbying of the policy makers. In 1980s the German
Green party successfully formed, which is an important development
during that period. Even 20th century also green parties won
national representation in several countries. There are several
value oriented environmental policies were formulated in this
period. This encourages the traditional parties to involve in the
recent environmental problems.
Most of the governments in the world make several laws and
regulations to protect the environment. Efficient waste management
system comprises of good sewage was one of the most important
policy of government to protect the environmental problems to make
a regulation over the degradation. There are certain regulating
measures fixed upon the industries which made large contribution to
environmental problems. Certain taxes were imposed on industries
which have higher emission of poisonous gases.
