Now that you have completed a series of assignments that have led you into the active project planning and development stage for your project, briefly describe your proposed solution to address the problem, issue, suggestion, initiative, or educational need and how it has changed since you first envisioned it. What led to your current perspective and direction? hourly nursing rounding
Hourly rounding is becoming a common strategy in hospitals to improve patient satisfaction and patient care because patient satisfaction is such an important issue in the healthcare industry. The purpose of hourly rounding is to interact with patients on a planned, regular basis to anticipate their fundamental care needs. By hourly rounding, nurses establish a relationship with their patient that is built on trust and a sense of security. Patients develop trust in their nurses and look for guidance from them during their stay in the hospital. Studies show that nursing behavior is essential to patient satisfaction. the evidence reveals that purposefully rounding on patients by nursing staff has a positive results on patient outcomes involving patient safety matters and patient satisfaction (Neville, Lake, LeMunyon, Paul & Whitmore)
Nurses would be expected to round on their patients once an hour. The better approach is to utilize only nurses for hourly rounding, but staffing and increased costs might require use of patient care associates. Staffing is a major problem in nursing homes, there are a couple of reasons of understaffing in nursing home, one might be that management of the nursing home knowingly understaffing with the intensions of making profit, lack of well trained nurses in nursing homes thus makes it a challenged when it comes to retaining nurses and lastly is due to an increase in turnover. The involvement of staff in decision making, besides staff taking time out from their duties which are resident care the staffs experience and knowledge gained at the workplace would assist in quality of care. Maintaining a flexible work schedule, nurses should take care of resident during the morning hours and in the afternoon they can take the time to visit residents and getting to know them better. A flexible working schedule gives staff time for their personal matters.
An increase in mistakes and even death due by nurses as they take less attention to the details because of lack of enough staff, nursing assistants are very as they play the role of assisting the patients who need the most medical attention through eating, drinking and a change of clothing. All these workload cannot be done by the nurse thus making it one of the causes of injuries in nursing homes. Overworking, when staffs are overworked it can get tough for them and some may result in knowingly committing abuse and mistakes.
