Why do leaders struggle with authenticity ?
Authenticity is categorised as the gold standard for leadership. Being true to yourself, maintaining coherence between what a leader say and do, and decisions on values-based choices - these are all factors that a good leaders have to face when trying to be or remain authentic. However leader’s today struggle with authenticity for many reasons as discussed below:
-- Firstly, in today's world we often make more-radical and more-frequent changes in the kinds of work we do. For improving the game, a clear and firm sense of self is a compass that is beneficial to navigate choices and progress toward attainment of the targets. However when we’re looking to change the game, a too rigid attitude becomes an anchor that keeps us from sailing forth.
-- Secondly, in international business, most people who work together don’t share same cultural norms and have different expectations for how we should behave, thus natural inclinations can make us feel like impostors
--Thirdly in today’s world identities are always on display of ubiquitous connectivity and social media; and it often ends with clash with our private sense of self
