What is the genetic condition in which the heterozygous individual has a different phenotype from the homozygous individual?

Solutions

Expert Solution

In complete dominance phenotype produced by heterozygous individual is identical with that produced by homozygous, but in some genetic codition this rule is not follow. In many cases the intencity of phenotype produced by heterozygous is less than that produced by homozygous and such condition is known as incomplite or partial dominance. Example : in Mirabilis Jalpa a partial dominant R produced red cour in homomzygous state , while recessive alleal r produced white in the homozygous. when a red (RR) is crossed with white (rr) flower, F1 has pink flower (Rr).

The other genetic condition is known as codominace in which both the allele of a gene express themselves in heterozygous condition such as human blood group

IAIA    A type blood group

IB I B B type blood group

IA IB AB type blood group

IO IO O type blood group.

In case of some genes , the intensity of charecter governed by them is grater in hetrozygotes than in the heterozygous this condition is known as overdominance for example in Drosophila allele w produced white eye in homozygous state, while in completely dominant allele W give rise to normal dull red eye colour bothh in homozygous ands hetrozygous states (WW AND Ww)
