Three things that make a bad speaker
- Message not tailored as per the audience: When speakers do not
address its audience or make presentations which are not tailored
to address the needs of the audience, this makes the audience to
realize that the speaker has not done his homework well and their
reaction could range from disappointment to disengagement.
- Not making eye contact with the audience: when the speaker
darts across the room without pausing to actually make eye contact
with his audience, it gives an impression of disinterest,
insecurity, insincerity or even arrogance.
- Low energy: the speaker being tired evidenced by low voice or
dull facial expressions is most disliked trait as this would make
the audience to lose interest in the presentation so the speaker
must be enthusiastic while presenting and should express with a
smile, and enjoy the moment.
Three things that make a bad speech
- A bad introduction: the introduction of the presentation or the
speech must be good enough to catch the attention of the audience
else the audience would lose their interest and may not be
interested in further listening to the may be better or interesting
content.
- No evidence-based support: A good speech must just not present
the statements. It should have facts to support these statements
which may include direct or indirect quotes.
- Breaks in the speech: A speech must embrace the silence. There
must be enough pauses in the speeches which make it easier for the
audience to understand and remember the things. The change of tone
and/or the speed of speech must be considered to make a speech
successful.
