Bad Survey
First, complete the survey as if you were the participant. Then identify and discuss the degree to which each survey item fulfills or fails to fulfill the criteria given in the BRUSO Model (acronym outlined below). There is a document on Canvas (The BRUSO Model – More Information) to help you further understand these criteria. Our class discussions should also be helpful to you.
BRUSO Criteria: B = Brief, R = Relevant, U = Unambiguous, S = Specific, O = Objective
Please choose *FIVE* survey items from the bad survey (see below). Use your textbook, the class discussions, the BRUSO Model document, and lecture to respond with the following information in your assignment:
Questions 3 5 6 11 12
Question 3 violates the objective criteria by starting off biased while also leading the participant.
Question 5
3. The potential issues with the items' corresponding response options/scales. Each response scale could be problematic for accurate measurement, so make sure to keep this in mind. Also, keep in mind what you thought as a participant as well as what others may think about their ability to provide an accurate response to the item.
4. The extent to which your five survey items could lead participants to respond inaccurately or dishonestly. Think about the different effects noted in your textbook and in class that can impact the accuracy of participants’ responses. (Again, keep in mind what you thought as a participant).
5. Pick two items out of the five you selected and revise them to address the issues you found (revising the wording, rearranging the words, format of the item, etc.). Discuss how your changes some of the address the issues you noted previously. Also revise the response options/scales, as there are issues with the response options/scales (or lack thereof) as well. Write out your revised versions of the survey items and response options/scales to demonstrate the improvements that you made.
Again, use your textbook, lecture, class notes, and the BRUSO criteria to guide your responses:
B = Brief, R = Relevant, U = Unambiguous, S = Specific, O = Objective
