Different strategies used by the nurse to implement trauma
informed care and promote recovery for the person who experiences a
borderline personality disorder are -
- Safety is always the number one priority for nurses before
intervention and the first thing they do is assessing if there are
evidence of self harm or suicide attempt. Sometimes even written
contracts are made that they won't harm themselves or others during
the whole process.
- Since these kind of patients are very sensitive toward every
thing that's why the second thing that nurses do is promoting
independence wherever possible within limits and boundaries.
- Nurses try to communicate their expectation with the patient as
well as try their level best to manage the expectation of the
patient.
- Being genuine and treating the patient with full respect and
maintaining their privacy is another strategy used by nurses.
Creating a relationship of trust is the basic motive behind
this.
- Nurses also encourages patients to discuss about their
feelings, the emotions they are having but the behavior or the
manipulation. An open discussion like this helps a lot in treating
such patients.
- The nurses try to identify the conditions that trigger the
worst side of their behavior and try to eliminate them by setting
limits and creating an environment where they feel more
comfortable.
