1a.)A stunt man can fall from the roof of a building and land on a pile of cardboard boxes with a tarp over them and not get hurt. Using Newton's Laws, how is this possible ?
1b.)What is the difference, if any, between mass and weight ?
2.)What is the origin of the normal force, that is what makes it possible for the surface to push back with a perpendicular force ? Why is it perpendicular ?
1a) A stunt man can fall from the roof of a building and land on a pile of cardboard boxes with a tarp over them and not get hurt. It is possible because the tarp increases the time for which a person is in contact with the hard pile of cardboards. Thus the rate of change of momentum gets slower and therefore the stuntment doest not get hurt . Thus it has been explained with the help of NEWTONS SECOND LAW OF MOTION.
1b) mass is the net content of the body and it remains constant throughout the universe . ,
Whereas weight is the force with which an earth or some other planet attracts a body towards its center .
2) Normal force originates due to the NEWTONS THIRD LAW of motion, which states that every action equal and opposite reaction.
