The federal drug and administration will not approve new pharmaceuticals products unless the developer can prove that the product is both safe and effective remedy for specified ailments. Do you think the safe and effective criterion would be good for Congress to adopt for the passage of new legislation> Why or Why not? Do you think most government action would meet this criterion? Discuss.
This is my answer
“Safe and Effective” is a very much generic term. Any drug which is safe for someone can be unsafe for someone else and the quantity of consumption also makes the difference. Effectiveness also in the same way is a generic term altogether. Any drug which is effective for someone may not be effective some someone else.
None of the drug are safe until it is used in proper place and proper way with proper quantity as prescribed by the druggist. And in the same way any critical drug also can be used for producing live saving medicines. The drugs which are so called “Banned” are banned because there are certain people who use them in a wrong way and some of the people get addicted to those drugs. Those addicted people are basically the target of a group of people who sell them in an illegal way. Otherwise those drugs also get used for producing medicine. Any of the drug can be effective if it can be used in proper quantity and time. So making a drug with a label “safe and effective” don’t make then really safe. Certain people do improper use of those medicines and those medicines can be used to make them “high”. So if the government need to stop that then the government need to stop distributing those medicines without proper prescription of the druggist.
For the government it is more important to stop free distribution of the medicines. The distribution place and the price of the medicines should be fixed and they should be distributed with proper doctor prescription. Government should look into stopping the illegal distribution of these medicines.
Thank you..
