1. You are a hospital administrator concerned with patient safety. Your hospital has been sued several times for injuries related to patient falls. What could you implement to decrease patient falls thereby improving safety? What causes a patient to bring a lawsuit against their caregivers?

2. A recent study by medical researcher Wendy Levison found that surgeons who had never been sued spent more than three minutes longer with each patient than those who had been sued. If this is credible what training would you provide to give caregivers to decrease the incidence of lawsuits?

1.Some of the things which can be implemented to decrease patient falls and improve patient safety are

  • Ensuring the patient environment is safe
  • Providing proper aides,assustance and equipment to mobilise
  • Informing relatives to stay with high risk patient ,children ,cognitive impaired patient, violent patients
  • Providing a clutter free area
  • Adequate lighting
  • Vision examination and encouraging elderly population to wear corrective glasses in case if any decreased vision level
  • Follow fall prevention protocol
  • Work as an interdisciplinary team to prevent fall.
