Considering that there is no treatment for schizophrenia, why would people want to detect it before its debilitating onset? Compare this to Alzheimer’s disease.
SCHIZOPHRENIA: A disorder that affects a person's ability to think, feel and behave clearly.
ALZHEIMER'S DISEASE: A progressive disease that destroys memory and other important mental functions.
WHY WOULD PEOPLE DETECT SCHIZOPHRENIA BEFORE ITS DEBILITATING ONSET? There is no cure for Schizophrenia and need lifelong treatment to control or reduce the severity of symptoms. People with schizophrenia slowly lose contact with reality and often have delusions and hallucinations. Lack of awareness is a common symptom of people with schizophrenia which makes the condition worse. Identifying it as early as possible greatly improves a person's chances of managing the illness, reducing the psychotic episodes and recovering from the disease. In Alzheimer's, memory problems are fundamental to the disease and unlike Alzheimer's disease there are medications to treat Schizophrenia and significantly reduce the symptoms.
