HEPATITIS C

An infection caused by a virus that attacks the liver and leads to infalmmation.The virus is spread by contact with contaminated blood,for instance from sharing needles or from unsterile tattoo equipment.

SYMPTOMS

When signs and symptoms are present they may include jaundice,along with fatigue,nausea ,fever and muscle aches.Acute symptoms appear one to three months after exposure to the virus and last two weeks to three months.

  • Nausea or vomitting

  • Jaundicde

Risk factors

The risk of hepatitis c infection is increased if

  1. Are a healthcare worker who has been exposed to infected blood which may happen if an infected needle pierces the skin
  2. Have ever injected or inhaled illict drugs
  3. Have HIV
  4. received a piercing or tattoo in an unclean environment using unsterile equipment.

Preventive measures

We can prevent the spread of infection by

Never share needles,intravenous drug users have the highest chance of getting infected ,because they may share needles.

Avoid direct exposure to blood or blood products

Dont't share personal care items

Choose tattoo and piercing parlors carefully

Practice safe sex

This can be treated with Antiviral medications,no vaccines are avilable for this.
