Sometimes, it can take years, or even decades for a product flop to disappear from the market. Sometimes, brands overextend their reach, introducing products that clash with their image and target demographics. However Microsoft eventually started to work with EA games and the ultimate release of today's games on the market, are from a marketing clash perspective of Playstation and Microsoft launched an entirely new platform leading to Xbox. Do you think a marketing strategy to cl ash with own current products is an effective source of marketing? And why?

I think it's not a good marketing strategy to clash with own current product. Microsoft is serious about building position in gaming market but there is high risk of launching the most expensive mainstream console ever. It has already messed with tried and tested formula. It is even puzzling how it will compete against cheaper Xboxs.This will not have an exclusive title because it's just the next device in a series that already exists.

The thing is that Xbox is a very different thing from the product line up of Microsoft . Microsoft only offers products and services related to the computing industry only. They have no expertise and knowledge in the console gaming segment and even their target market is not the same who are into the gaming
In order to Clash with the Sony’s PlayStation ,which is a already a game player in the console gaming segment .

Microsoft tried to develop games with EA sports and ultimately entered into the console gaming segment which is not even their prime focus and developed Xbox. It would be like playing game on a tougher difficult setting than the case otherwise. It is trying to steam with other live updates but it would be hard to provide any regular updates unlike others. Sony has already different visions and set a weight in the market.

Microsoft’s Xbox doesn’t have much game titles as compared to Sony's PlayStation. Infact every new title launched comes first for the PlayStation console and later to the XBox. Sony’s PlayStation has been a leading gaming console in the gaming industry market.

Yes we cannot forget that Microsoft is doing well and will come up with vibrant series of Xbox and certainly has power to suffer losses and still hold a position the market. It would be really interesting to see what happens down the line.
