discharge training for liver cirrhosis
patients
Cirrhosis is a chronic progressive disease of the liver characterized by diffuse degeneration and destruction of hepatocytes.
DISCHARGE TEACHING
DIET-Restrict sodium intake as prescribed and provide supplemental vitamins [B complex,Vitamin A,C and folic Acid and Thiamine] as prescribed.
-encourage the patient to aviod alcohol
Weight -Encourage and educate the patient to weigh daily and keep a wait log.If there is any sudden change in the wait call healthcare provider.
Medications-Take medication exactly as prescribed.
Talk with health care provider before taking any medications such as vitamin,over the counter medicines and herbal suppliments because some herbal suppliments and pain killers like NSAIDS can harm the liver if patient have cirrhosis.
Do not take aspirin or other blood thinning medications.
Consult doctor before taking vaccinations.
Perform Ultra sound or MRI Scan every six monthsor as prescribed by doctor.
WHEN TO INFORM DOCTOR
Fever of 100.04 degree(F) or higher should inform the doctor.
Extreme tiredness,weakness or lack of appetite should inform.
Vomiting with or without blood should inform.
Presence of Jaundice signs like yellowing of your skin or eye needs medical attention.
Swelling in your belly or leg,black or tarry stools, skin that bruises easily should inform.
Confusion or trouble thinking needs medical attention. because it is the sighn of increased toxicity
itching needs attention because it occur due to high levels of bile salts accumulating under the skin
