How can you identify organic molecules?

How can you identify organic molecules? Give details explaination.

Solutions

Expert Solution

A molecule is organic if it contains carbon and hydrogen.

Scientists have not agreed on a single definition that covers all organic molecules.

But the above definition will probably cover the vast majority of the compounds you will encounter.

Some exceptions to the rule are compounds like

H2CO3 and  HCN , which are usually considered to be inorganic molecules. And the rule does lead to some inconsistencies.

For example,

CH3Cl,  CH2Cl2 , and  CHCl3 are all organic, but  CCl4

would be classed as inorganic, even though most scientists classify it as organic.

The important biological molecules such as carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, and nucleic acids are all organic molecules.

How can both clay and ice crystals enhance chemical reactions necessary to form complex organic molecules? A. Both have highly reactive surfaces that help to lower the energy of activation for reactions that form complex organic molecules. B. Both trap the water needed in reactions that result in organic molecules. C. Both have the necessary elements to form amino acids. D. Both have microscopic spaces that help to concentrate reagents, facilitating reactions involving those reagents.

If carbohydrates are unavailable for cellular respiration, other organic molecules can be broken down and enter the cellular respiration process at the appropriate spot. Proteins can be broken down into a variety of amino acids. Some amino acids can be converted into glutamate which can then be converted into alpha- ketoglutarate. State which steps of the cellular respiration pathway, lead to the generation of the energy molecules. State the TOTAL number of ATP molecules the ONE of these converted alpha-ketoglutarate...
