Please select topic one or topic two below and use it to formulate a thread that is at least one paragraph in length. (You do not necessarily need to address all of the questions, they are to help you get started, please feel free to add ideas as well.) After composing your initial thread, please respond to a minimum of two threads from your classmates.
1. What is a right? Please name two or more rights that we have. Is healthcare a right? If so, why, and how much are we entitled too. Who should decide what care we get? Who should pay? Who should ensure we get this right? Does the Affordable Care Act assist us in the right to healthcare? Do insurance companies assist us in the right to healthcare?
2. Please look up and list the salaries and bonuses for CEOs of Aetna, BC/BS, United Health Care, Cigna, etc. Did the information surprise you? Where does the money for this come from? How do these companies operate? Do you think the system could be improved, if so, how?
Topic 1: In my views, healthcare cannot be considered as a right. It is basically a service, which is aimed at the right of the care and wellbeing of an entity. Article 25 of the UN declaration of human rights does state that every human being has the right to a basic standard of living to facilitate the health and well being of himself and his near and dear ones. This right will cover the requirement for food, clothes, home and shelter as well as medical care.
The government and universal watchdog entities like the United Nations and WHO are the entities which propose the laws and regulations facilitating the right to health and well being. It is their duty to ensure that adequate care is provided to the entities.
In my views, legal acts like Affordable care act as well as insurance companies are the facilitators of healthcare, the proposition of whose is done by the government. It is the responsibility of the government as well as policy makers to monitor the adherence of basic health and wellness rights of entities.
