What are some of the factors that affect the way a woman perceives and copes with pain? Discuss culture, age, previous personal experience with pain, parity, and the physical, psychologic, and emotional support.
Women use more emotional and social stategies to cope with pain but also women experience more pain compair to men.They experience pain differently.they experience painful stimuli as more intense than men.
Factors that affecting pain:(a) BIOLOGICAL FACTOR: Girls and boys react to pain in similer way before puberty,but differently after puberty because there will be variation in sex hormones, estrogen will increases sensitivity to pain ,it more in women.Testosterone plays a protective role in decreasing the perception of pain it is more in men.(b) PSYCHOLOGICAL FACTOR:(1) anxiety; anxiety will increases sympathetic nervous system reaction.elevated level of anxiety increases perception of pain.Clinical and experimental studies have shown that anxiety was associated with increased pain sensitivity in men not women.(2) Depression;Insome peoples when depressive symptoms increase pain will increase.depression is positively correlated with increase pain in women.(c) Cognition;Women are use more emotional and social stategies to cope with pain.
CULTURAL FACTORS:Some are unwillingness to express pain in public may be a reflection of cultural believes about appropriate behaviour when experiencing pain.some people will use some coping mechanism to feel comfort with pain.mentaly they will fix that facter so they can tolerate the pain.
Previous personal experience will also affect the pain sensitivity.some may have previously experienced pain so they can tolerate well,but some one will be more anxious about pain because they experienced more pain in past for same reason.
