1. Ethics Issue #1: A young woman recently certified and employed as a medical assistant was well-groomed and knowledgeable when she appeared for her employment interview. Immediately after the woman began work, she changed her appearance markedly. During her first on the job, she reported for work with bright blue streaks in her hair, which had been cut from shoulder length to very short. In addition, she now had eye brow stud, a nose stud, and a butterfly tattoo on her neck. The supervisor who had interviewed and hired the woman was appalled. • In your opinion, what should the supervisor do because she was obviously not pleased with the changes in her new hire? • Should the medical assistant have changed her appearance in this way? Why or why not? • In the supervisor’s place, what would you say to the medical assistant?
1.The superviser needs to talk with the Medical Assistant about the dress code policy of the institution. She should also explain to her that such unacceptable attire is not good for a professional job and give her a handbook with a detailed explanation of the of the official dress code policy the institution follows .Also warn her that she had to take to discipliniary actions if it has not been followed and it will degrade her eventhough how much competent she is in her field.
2.No ,she shouldnt have done that. The main reason is that Mesdical assistants should be a good example for other health care providers.By following dress code policy the Medical assistant would seem professional and approachable for the patients.Inorder to project a professional image she should cover up her tatoos with bandaaids or make up.She also need to remove the eyebrow stud and a nose stud as this is not a dance club venue. If she still feels she has some obvious reasons for wearing the tatoos it will be better if she talk the matter with the H
3,I would have immediately taken disciplinary action . Being a medical assistant she should have known the dress code policy and adhere to it .I will also ask her to immediately remove all the unnecessary ornaments before entering to duty and ask her to write an explanation for her behaviour.
