I am doing an essay surrounding the question of "when informed consent is not needed in order for a doctor to continue on with a procedure?" This revolves around the subject of bioethics. So I just need to know in what cases on scenarios does medical consent not needed in order for a medical professional to conduct a procedure?
Informed consent is a legal form that refer to the patient right to know about the risk which is associated with the course of treatment or the medical procedure before he or she decides to undergo treatment or procedure. But there are certain instance where the doctor doesn't need the consent to conduct the procedure.
Scenarios where medical consent is not needed-
A. In case of emergency, it is the duty of the doctor to save the patients life. If they utilize timing in letting know the risk associated with the procedure, this make result in causing delay and enhances the risk associated with patient. In such cases the doctor doesn't need the consent form.
B. In case the patient is unconscious.
C. When the patient is mentally incapacitated and emotionally fragile - in such cases the doctor is aware that the patient will refuse the treatment and when they know that by letting know the procedure can cause anxiety to the patient, he may choose to withhold some information. However the doctor must be able to demonstrate why the risk associated with the procedure were not disclosed to the patient.
