The data, shown in thousands of dollars, have been ordered from the highest salary to the lowest salary for each team.

1. Analyze the salaries for the World Champion Philadelphia Phillies. What is the total payroll for the team? What is the median salary? What is the five-number summary?

2. Were there salary outliers for the Philadelphia Phillies? If so, how many and what were the salary amounts?

3. What is the total payroll for each of the other three teams? Develop the five-number summary for each team and identify any outliers.

4. Show the box plots of the salaries for all four teams. What are your interpretations? Of these four teams, does it appear that the team with the higher salaries won the league championships and the World Series?

Philadelphia phillies team - according to the given data we can see there is a huge difference between the hight and lowest paid salaries with no outliers . This means players are paid based on their sportsmanship skill. .

Phillies = 89084

Dodgers = 135980

Rays = 41938

Red sox = 117460

There are no salary outliers for phillies team as  

Higher outlier = Q3 + 1.5 × IQR

= 14788.75

And no value is greater than 14788.75

Lower outlier = Q1- 1.5× IQR

=-8181.25  

So no value is lower than this value .

Rays = two outliers as

IQR = 1951

Q3 + 1.5× IQR = 5276.5

By closely observing the boxplots for all the salary amount set for four teams we can see that majority of the salary amounts are greater than the median salary amount . Also the start of the box shows 25% of the data lower than the Q1 and 75% of the data lower than Q3 . In all four teams majority data is 25% above the Q3 and a very small amounts are lower than Q1 .

There is no evidencw that the team with higher salaries paid won the championship leagues as we can see that phillie were given lesser salaries than dodgers and yet they defeated dodgers .
