How serious is the current threat of nuclear weapons being acquired and used in a terrorist attack and why? Please write your response in at least 350 words.
The scenario of threats by acquiring nuclear weapons is termed as Nuclear Terrorism.
Detail explanation of Nuclear Terrorism:
Nuclear terrorism is an offense committed if a person unlawfully and intentionally uses in any way radioactive material with the intent to cause death or serious bodily injury; or with the intent to cause substantial damage to property or to the environment; or with the intent to compel a natural or legal person, an international organization or a State to do or refrain from doing an act.
So now what is the scope of this Nuclear Terrorism
Scope:
1.By acquiring or fabricating a nuclear weapon.
2.Fabricating a dirty bomb.
3.Attacking a nuclear reactor, eg., by disrupting critical inputs.
4.Attacking or taking over a nuclear armed submarine,plane or base.
Pathways for nuclear terrorism:
1.The use of a nuclear weapon that has been stolen or purchased on the black market.
2.The use of a crude explosive device built by terrorists or by nuclear scientists who the terrorist organization has furtively recruited.
3.The use of an explosive device constructed by terrorists and their accomplices using their own fissile material.
4. The acquisition of fissile material from a nation-state.
Looking at all these loop holes and advantages of nuclear terrorism, it has to be considered as a serious threat and need to looked after on a larger scale.
Many incedents have took place which shows us the serious threat by nuclear terrorism
By all the above possibilities it seems like nuclear terrorism have been digging in to deeper roots. So we should consider it as a serious threat and need to be demolished for safer world.
