We have seen in the news how certain companies are portrayed as having a negative impact on the environment either through carelessness or negligence. Take a moment and answer the following questions dealing with business and the environment: Based on what you see in the news, do you think that companies really care if they negatively impact the environment? Why or why not? What are your thoughts on the need for stronger laws and stiffer penalties for causing the environment harm through negligence? What recommendations would you make?
According to the news and reporting, some companies really don't care about the environment, because they are no only motivated by the profit at the cost of environment, but also they don't have the adequate process and technologies to deal with the chemical waste, getting discharged into either water or air. It is causing harm to the environment and temperature of the earth is growing up, leading to change in weather. A stronger law is required that should focus upon the adoption of complete process that is not harmful to the environment. Today. laws are stringent, but they cover only some parts of the process. But, a comprehensive law is required that covers the whole value chain from start to end for each type of production & operations activities. If these laws and safe technologies are not adopted, then penalties should be applied with punishment under the penal code. It will make firms to stop getting negligent and remain focus to prevent any harm to the environment.
Recommendations are as follows:
1. Prescribe specific technologies that are green, safe and environmental friendly and ban older & harmful technologies. It will prevent the scope of release of harmful waste.
2. Find alternative means or goods that can help preventing the destruction of forest areas and soil conservation could take place. It will close the firms who only rely on materials provided by the forest areas
3. Set stringent standards for emission norms so that air pollution is stopped.
4. Stop giving pervasive incentives in agriculture and focus upon the production of organic food.
