Positive checks:-to population are things that shorten the life span, warfare and poor living and working of environments.

According to him these positive checks would result in a malthusian crisis.

• Strongly opposed birth control with in marriage.
• Proposed chief preventive check which was a moral restraint
• Proposed that poor living and working conditions gives rise to low resistance to diseases.
• He suggested that population increase should be kept down.for applying various checks on population growth which he categorized as preventive and positive checks.
