Why has Joseph Stalin become successful in taking over the Soviet Union

Joseph Stalin had been one of the most profound General Secretary of Communist Party of the Central Committee of Soviet Union, starting from the year 1922 till his death in the year 1953. Stalin rose, after the death of Vladimir Lenin, and came to power.

Stalin was active for almost 12 years before the Russian Revolution of 1917. Stalin had taken up military positions, after the October Revolution, in the Russian Civil War. He was one of the chief operatives, in the Bolsheviks' and was subsequently seen around Lenin. Lenin thought that Stalin was a man of a strong character, and he was considered as a loyal follower who had the ability to get things done his way.

He played an important part in shaping the Red Army invasion in 1921 with a strong approach towards his opposition. He was able to make influential positions with the help of his connections and made his position in the new Soviet government. Later, he got appointed as the General Secretary in 1922. Due to a stroke, Lenin had been forced into a semi-retirement stage. Stalin had been recommended to be dismissed from being the General Secretary, with increased criticism of Lenin. Lenin's career had ended due to a stroke in the year 1923. Leon Trotsky began being isolated politically in the subsequent years, who was one of the major opposition of Stalin’s. Gradually, this Stalin turned out and evolved to be one of the most powerful names in the Soviet Union.
