Explain in your own words why light is trapped in an optical fiber. Describe at least two cases where you have observed the effects of light refraction besides the case of a swimming pool. Use examples from your own life. Why the fabrication of optical fiber is a very delicate process? What do you understand is the "Dispersion" effect in communication fibers.
1. Optical fibre has a fine glass core and it is surrounded by a cladding of glass with lower Refractive index than the core. This means that light shone into the core at an angle greater than the critical angle will total internally reflect at the Boundary between the core and cladding. The light then travel down the fibre through a series of reflection before existing at the other end. In optical fibre the light does not travel straight, it reflected and trapped in optical fibre.
2. Exaple for daily life that i have seen is coin in a glass Or bucket and second example is pencil in water.... In both examples the thing are seen to bhi shallower than it actual place.
3. An optical fibre is made up of drawing glass Or plastic to a diameter slightly thicker than that of a human hair. Being able to join optical fibre with low loss is important. This is more complex than joining the electrical wire Or cable. This is why these are very delicate to fabricate.
4. In communication technology dispersion is used to describe any process by which an electromagnetic signal propagating in a physical medium is degraded because the various wave components of the signal have different propagation velocities within the physical medium.
