The question:

A teacher is trying to figure out how fast he can throw a Baseball, but doesn't have a radar gun. He does have the following:

- Baseball

- Soft styrofoam Block ( In which the ball could become embedded into during a collision)

- A level tabletop

- A metre stick

- A balance scale.

The teacher also has determined the coefficient of friction between the block and table.

NOTE: The kinetic coefficient of friction is determined while sliding.

The task:

Answer the following below questions:

1. Draw a diagram based on the above question.

2. With the aide of diagrams, derive a single equation that the teacher could use to determine the speed of the ball immediately prior to colliding with the block. Show your steps

3. State and explain 3 to 4 assumptions that need to be made such that your equation above is valid.

Your friend claims he can throw a baseball straight up with a speed of 80 mi/h. You do not believe him, so you design an experiment that will enable you to calculate the speed of a thrown ball. You attach a 0.5-kg block to a vertical spring. The block hangs a distance of 0.05 m below the relaxed position. Your friend stands directly beneath the hanging block and throws the baseball straight up. He releases the ball at a distance...

There is a myth in baseball that a pitcher can throw a “rising fastball” meaning that if the ball is thrown horizontal, the Magnus Force created from backspin will overcome gravity and the ball will literally rise in the air. This assignment is to be done individually. 95 speed of the baseball in mph. a. Calculate the rpm that is needed to generate enough Magnus Force to overcome the force of gravity. Note: Be careful with units and show all...

Im trying to figure out how to draw this Now, in the innermost circle (0.1 m radius), assume we found 8 species of plant. In the second smallest circle, we found 10 species. In the third smallest circle, we found 13 species. In the largest circle, we found 14 species. Note that when moving from the smallest circle to the next-smallest circle, we did NOT find 10 additional species...The 10 species in the second smallest circle includes the 8 found...

You would like to start saving for your retirement and are trying to figure out how much to save.   You estimate that you will need $350,000 per year for the 30 years you’ll be retired. In addition, you’d like to have an additional $85,000 in your fifth year of retirement to buy a boat (This money should be in addition to the $300k you are withdrawing). How is this done in R-studio? I have been trying to figure it out but I am getting more and more confused. While imprisoned by the Germans during World War II, the English mathematician John Kerrich tossed a coin 10,000 times and obtained 5067 heads. Let p be the probability of a head on a single toss. We wish to check if the data are consistent with the hypothesis that the coin was fair. a) Set up the hypotheses. Why...

I was trying to figure out the flow of electrons in a battery connected to a circuit. Conventionally, current is from the (+) terminal to the (-) terminal of the battery. Realistically it flows the other way round; from the (-) terminal to the (+) terminal. My question is, assuming electron flow is from the (-) terminal, would the battery's cathode be located at the (+) terminal and it's anode at the (-) terminal or would it be vice versa?...
