Turkey has been trying to get membership of EU since 1987 when it tried for first time. Turkey is located in very strategic region and its economy has strong compatibility with EU economy. Turkey can help to fight against rising terrorism in Middle east. Turkey also helped in refugee crisis by extending helps to deserted and destitute people.

But recently, it seems that Turkey entry into EU has relatively become impossible for following reasons:

After coup in Turkey, President ordered purge of his opponents which has resulted into mass violation of human rights and civil liberties. EU takes strong view of human rights while granting membership to any applicant. Further, Turkey is mulling proposal restore the harsh punishments such execution for indulging in sedition or related activities.

Present stances of president and suspension of Turkey-EU talks by EU parliament suggest that Turkey is not likely to get membership in near future. It must improve its human right record and further must address other concerns that have been raised by EU members such as employment and cultural differences.
