Read the following scenario:
Dr. Smith has a full morning of minor office surgeries scheduled for today. Sarah, his nurse, has set up the room and prepared the patient. Prior to starting, Dr. Smith requests anesthetic without epinephrine due to the location of the surgical site. Searching the drawers and supply closet, Sarah reports, "We don't have any."
Fortunately, Sarah was able to borrow a vial from the physician in an adjacent office suite. Investigation by the office manager reveals that the supply was not reordered when the previous stock was disposed of due to its expiration date. This disruption in supply chain management resulted in an inefficient use of physician time and an uncomfortable situation in the presence of a patient.
Create a 2-page executive summary explaining to your staff the significant of stocking, placing timely orders, and provide a step by step method on what to do in order to avoid this type of situation in Dr. Smith's office.
Materials management is concerned with providing the drugs ,supplies and equipments needed by health personnel to deliver health services.The right drugs,supplies and equipments must be at the right place ,at the right time time and in the right quantity inorder that health personnel deliver health services.Without proper material ,health personnel cannot work effectively,they feel frustrated and the community lacks self confidence in the health services and unless appropriate materials are provided ,in proper time and in required quantity ,productivity of personnel will not be upto expectation.

Inventory control is the stocking of adequate number and kind of stores so that the materials are available whenever required and wherever required.ABC analysis is the analysis of store items on cost criteria.it has been seen that a large number of items consume only a small percentage of resources and vice versa.A-items represent high cost ,Bitems intermediate cost and Citems are low cost .in so far as inventory control is concerned the following guidelines will help in keeping the system optimum.
