describe an IT or similar business project you have done or are currently doing. In your discussion, provide information on the following:
1. What is that project? Provide complete description. Consider using PPM.
2. What was the scoop, deliverable, and results of the project?
3. What constraints did you experience and how did you handle them?
4. If you had to do the same project again, what changes will you recommend?
Q1) What is that project? Provide complete description. Consider using PPM.
The project was an ERP implementation for a major heavy wheels and tires manufacturing firm. The objective of the project is to move the client to an Oracle Cloud ERP system from their 20 year old legacy system which is not highly integrated.
Q2) The scope of the project included -
1. Including all the business process configurations and transactions for Purchasing, Manufacturing, Inventory, Planning and Order Management functions/modules.
2. Design, development and testing of custom reports for specific requirements.
3. Integration with certain other systems etc.
The deliverables included -
1. Configurations in the system for all the above functions/modules
2. Custom objects to fulfill the requirements that are not provided by standard Oracle ERP
The results of the project were -
1. Successful implementation of the major modules/functions as per the scope
2. Successful integration of all the key functions that would ensure end to end transactions in the system.
Q3) The constraints experienced during the project include -
1. Increase in scope with addition of new custom object requirements
2. Multiple issues during testing cycles
3. Difficulty in collection and conversion of huge amount of data from the previous system.
4. Difficulty in integration with external systems.
The constraints are handled effectively by continuously engaging all the key resources in the tasks and issues on priority and being flexible in the work timings etc.
Q4) The changes that I will recommend if I do the same project again include -
1. Better project management by ensuring the phases are well planned and tasks are well handled.
2. Tracking the timings effectively and planning the testing and release of deliverables.
