how virtues influence a medical professional practices in thier work
Virtues influence medical professional practices in their work as the virtue ethics ensures good practice as practice such as practice results from the virtuous moral character of the doctor. The ethical demands on the medical practitioner as a moral person require virtues such as; kindness, fairness and good judgment for a doctor to be considered good in his profession. In a research conducted through a survey survey, where participants were presented with a list of the 24 character strengths included in the Values in Action Inventory of Strengths (VIA-IS) (Peterson and Seligman 2004), there was strong agreement between doctors and medical students as to what character strengths they possess and five strengths of a good doctor out of the 24 featured in the most frequently picked strengths list for all three of the cohorts(Kotzee, 2017);
fair,
honest,
kind,
a leader,
a good team player, and
a person with good judgment.
Thus a virtuous doctor will be sincere, honest and fair to our client.
