How does a professional association's ethical code obligate the clinical and advocacy practices of a health professional?
Ethical obligation are central to the professional's responsibility ,regardless to of the employment site or the method of collection ,storage ,and security of health information .in addition sensitive information (e.g genetic,adoption,drug,alcohol, health and behavioral information) requires special attention to prevent misuse.
The AHIMA code of ethics serves seven purpose:
- promotes high standard of HIM practice
- identify core value on which the HIM mission is based
-summarizes broad ethical principles that reflect the profession core value
- establish a set of ethical principal
-establish the framework for profession behavior and responsibilities.
-provide ethical principles by which the general public can hold the HIM professional accountable
-mentor practitioners new to the field to HIM'S mission,value, and ethical principles
