Ethnic group is a group of people who share a common heritage, culture and language. Ethnic groups are united by common cultural, behavioral or religious practices. They have common identitites.

Immmigration of various ethnic groups to America has been called as "oil that greases American economy". It is called so because ethnic groups have benefitted American economy in many ways. The ways in which ethnic groups have contributed to American economy are as follows:

1. They haven't pushed American out of jobs, but have contributed to American economy by doing those jobs which native Americans have difficulty in performing like engineering.

2. They have benefitted American economy by making use of their talent and skills in various sectors from high skilled sectors like medicine etc. to sector of lower skills like hotels and restaurants etc.

3. Immigrants make most of human capital in technical field and have contributed to creation of new products such as Java Computer Language which has created jobs for millions of Americans.

4. They have also used their innovative and creative skills to bring business contacts to markets to enhance America's ability to trade and invest in profitable ventures in global economy.

5. Immigrants help to keep the American economy stable by using their abilities in the production works to keep the prices low and equilibrium between demand and supply.

These are the ways by which ethnic groups have contributed to American economy which has worked as an oil in greasing the pace of economic growth in American economy.
