What health disparities related to different ethnic and cultural groups relative to health promotion do you see in the community. Describe the impact the lack of or availability of health promotion has on your community. Discuss whether you feel there is sufficient access to health promotion services in your community. Explain your answer thoroughly
Improving cultural competence is an effective way of reducing health disparities through unbiased quality care. Culturally competent care consider the cultural factors and diversity in the patient population that directly and indirectly affect health and health care. These include cultural beliefs, attitudes, communication, language, and behaviors. National standards for culturally and linguistically appropriate services in health and health care (National CLAS standards) was established by the Department of Health and Human Services in the United States. On the other side, the interventions of cultural competence may induce unintended consequences. For example, the cultural competence interventions often aim to provide health care by considering cultural aspect, thus increasing cultural sensitivity although it reduced stereotyping and stigma. So, there is a possibility that certain cultural competence interventions may induce different stereotyping behavior by making the healthcare provider to create new ways of categorizing clients, which lead to negative consequences.
Race and ethnicity: The racial differences and ethnic backgrounds that include differences in certain cultures, discrimination, differences in employment that may be due to poor education are the leading causes of health disparities in certain regions.
